Imagine a world in which every element aboard a vessel is meticulously conceived to embody excellence, a world where design and innovation blend seamlessly to craft singular masterpieces. This is the vision behind Elka, a company on course to become the global leader in nautical faucets. Katia Paracchini, founder and CEO of Elka Design, leads this enterprise with passion and precision, setting it apart through its relentless pursuit of perfection, echoing Leonardo da Vinci’s philosophy: “Details make perfection, and perfection is not a detail.” Every Elka Design creation is the embodiment of this ethos.

Headquartered on the shores of Lake Orta in northern Italy, Elka has earned global recognition for its bespoke solutions tailored to the highly specific demands of the yachting world. Each product, crafted from the finest materials such as AISI 316L marine-grade stainless steel, brass, and carbon fibre, is the result of advanced technological research, including the integration of 3D printing. The design process, overseen by creative and technical visionary Luca Dosso, ensures that every fixture is functionally impeccable and enhances the onboard aesthetic of any superyacht. With an expanding international presence, Elka Design exemplifies the enduring prestige of Italian craftsmanship on the global stage.

Among the company’s most distinguished collaborations is one with master goldsmith Davide Maule, which led to the creation of the Cellini faucet, an 18Kt gold jewel encrusted with diamonds, which premiered in the VIP area of the Dubai Boat Show. This extraordinary piece encapsulates the pinnacle of Italian luxury and artisan heritage. The 7080GAPC carbon fibre shower column, a true indulgence for owners and their guests, captures the essence of Elka’s design philosophy: a perfect symbiosis of technological innovation, elegance, and onboard comfort, from that to the revolutionary Cocoon (an iconic product that became famous by the film Prometheus), which integrates a mixer, a spout, a basin, and a drainage system into a single functional and sculptural form. Every Elka product stands as proof of artistry, innovation, and quality.

We took the opportunity to speak with the woman who turned her vision into reality: Elka Design’s founder, Katia Paracchini.
Katia Paracchini, a symbol of Italian excellence and a true self-made woman. Tell us about your entrepreneurial beginnings.
My Ikigai, the meeting point between what I love, what I am good at, what the world needs, and what I am valued for, has guided me throughout. This balance led me to create and lead Elka Design, an emblem of Italian excellence in marine fittings.

An entrepreneurial journey: a bold vision driven by passion
I was born in Piedmont, near Lake Orta, a region where the tapware industry is deeply woven into both industrial and cultural traditions. That’s where I first stepped into this world, driven by a strong determination and a constant desire to learn. After years of hands-on experience, I felt compelled to create something truly my own, a company that would reflect my personal idea of quality, design, and innovation. A turning point came during a trip to Africa, where I spent three months in a safari camp helping a friend. The experience gave me a renewed perspective. Upon returning home, I began designing taps for camper vans, a niche market with highly specific needs. From there, it was a natural progression into the marine sector, where quality and design are essential. That’s how Elka Design was born, a company dedicated to bespoke products, engineered to withstand the harshest marine environments while maintaining an elegant aesthetic. We collaborate closely with naval architects and interior designers and constantly experiment with innovative materials such as carbon fibre, titanium, and aluminium. Every product we craft carries part of my story, passion, and vision. In 2014, we received a prestigious award for internationalisation, a recognition that confirmed we were on the right path. Today, Elka Design is present in major global markets and international trade shows, yet I continue to work with the same resolve that marked my early days. To me, being a self-made woman means never ceasing to believe in oneself and one’s dreams.

To what extent have design and material research contributed to your company’s success?
Design and material research have been central to Elka Design’s success, representing a perfect harmony of innovation, craftsmanship, and Italian design. From day one, we chose to focus exclusively on nautical faucets, developing solutions specifically engineered to endure the rigours of the marine environment and mobile living. Our commitment to quality and functionality has led us to use materials such as AISI 316L stainless steel, aluminium, and carbon fibre, all renowned for their corrosion resistance and lightweight. Working with designer Luca Dosso has allowed us to deliver highly customised solutions that meet the precise needs of our clients. Using cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing has enabled us to prototype with precision and provide tailor-made products with sophisticated finishes. This fusion of innovative design and advanced material research has established our leadership in the nautical fittings sector, opening doors to the most important international exhibitions and earning a discerning global clientele.

A dream come true, a reality that today is a dream fulfilled. What does the future hold for Elka Design?
A dream fulfilled, a reality that now inspires dreams, this is exactly what Elka Design represents to me. Every step we’ve taken has been guided by passion, innovation, and the desire to offer something truly unique, genuine, and distinctly Italian. Looking ahead, I have ambitious plans for the company. We aim to grow while preserving our artisanal identity. We aim to expand our international footprint further, forge new partnerships with shipyards, architects, and designers worldwide, and bring our expertise to related sectors such as premium recreational vehicles and outdoor furnishings. We’re also investing heavily in research and development: integrating smart solutions, adopting even more sustainable materials like titanium, and ensuring our products always meet the highest standards in aesthetics and performance. Elka’s future is one of continuous evolution, firmly rooted in the values that define us: attention to detail, uncompromising quality, and a refined vision of beauty that withstands the test of time. After all, every dream achieved carries within it the spark of the next. And we are ready to pursue it.

With an unwavering commitment to global growth, Elka Design looks to the future with the same ambition and dedication that have shaped its journey thus far. It is ready to innovate, astonish, and set new benchmarks in the world of nautical faucets.
