Boris Dondé-Mancastroppa: a pop rebellion that resonates and shines through the mosaics of myth.

His solo exhibition, titled “The New Pop Art,” will be hosted in August and September 2025 by the Foundation Majid in Ascona, Switzerland. A not-to-be-missed event, the exhibition showcases his most celebrated works. It unveils two absolute premières: the “Mosaic” series and a collection of painted cellos, true hybrids of painting, sculpture, and sound. These cellos, genuine musical instruments transformed into synaesthetic artworks, represent one of the highest points of his recent production: vibrant surfaces where colour appears to emit frequencies, as though matter were transmuted into visual melody. During the vernissage (2 August 2025 – 6:30 p.m.), guests will be presented with a print of one of the master’s artworks, personally signed and dedicated by him.

Art has accompanied Maestro Dondé from the beginning, rooted in a family tradition rich in creativity. Over time, this passion has crystallised into a unique vision, evolving into a genuine global phenomenon. Following formative training at the New York Academy, he made a successful international debut, exhibiting in Monte Carlo, Tokyo, and Dubai, and establishing himself as one of the most distinctive voices of New Pop Art. Dondé’s Pop Art is reimagined, eclectic, laden with cultural references and popular iconographies, yet always imbued with subtle irony and deliberate provocation. His artwork is a sophisticated, explosive blend of 1980s irreverence, postmodern glamour, mass culture, and academic painting.
The “Mosaic” collection stands out for its unprecedented weaving of chromatic fragments that form recognisable and transfigured images. It is as though the artist were deconstructing the visual identity of 20th-century icons to recompose them in a new, hypnotic, at times psychedelic language. Returning to this series are his perennial muses: Marilyn Monroe, along with Walt Disney characters, from Mickey Mouse to Donald Duck, reinterpreted with irony and ambiguity, suspended between childhood nostalgia and a critical reflection on consumer culture.
Dondé does not copy, nor does he quote: he reinterprets. He takes the icon and views it through the lens of a man who has never stopped believing in the transformative power of art. His images do not merely evoke; they dig beneath the surface of the visible to unearth a shared memory, a kind of contemporary pop archetype. His work opens a portal onto the recent past, onto that glittering night of the 1980s when aesthetics already served as a form of rebellion. And rebellion, for Dondé, remains the only true form of fidelity to myth. A fidelity that does not bow down, but reinvents.
