Richemont has announced that Louis Ferla, currently Chief Executive Officer of Vacheron Constantin, will succeed Cyrille Vigneron as CEO of Cartier, effective 1st September 2024. Vigneron will hand over the reins to Ferla after eight years at the helm of the Maison. Vigneron will assume the Chairman of Cartier Culture & Philanthropy role and work with Mr Ferla “to ensure a smooth transition,” as said in Richemont’s statement. Louis Ferla brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the luxury sector. He has served as CEO of Vacheron Constantin since 2017, leading the brand to remarkable growth. Under his leadership, Vacheron Constantin’s annual sales surpassed CHF 1 billion. It’s Richemont’s third largest brand after Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.

Ferla’s career with Richemont began in 2001 with key roles at Alfred Dunhill and Cartier, where he managed various regions, including the Middle East, India, and Africa, before being appointed managing director of Cartier in China. In 2015, he was promoted to the Maison’s executive committee as International Director of Clients & Business. His deep understanding of Cartier’s operations and market dynamics thus positions him well to lead the brand into its next chapter. Richemont Chairman of the Board Johann Rupert has said in the statement that Ferla “has earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues across the Group and of the industry at large for having so brilliantly positioned Vacheron Constantin at the pinnacle of Haute Horlogerie. His experience and leadership qualities will prove invaluable for Cartier’s long-term success.”

Nicolas Bos, the recently appointed CEO of Richemont, echoes Rupert’s confidence in Ferla’s ability to steer Cartier towards continuous success: “I have always admired Louis’ strategic vision and inspiring management style, which have served him well in turning Vacheron Constantin into one of the world’s leading luxury watchmakers. I look forward to seeing Cartier continue to thrive under his leadership,” said Bos.

Cyrille Vigneron has helped Richemont identify Ferla as his successor. He highlights the importance of Ferla’s extensive experience with the Group, praises his “outstanding leadership skills,” and dubs him “the ideal candidate for the role.” Vigneron will work with Ferla to ensure a seamless handover. In his new role as Chairman of Culture and Philanthropy, Vigneron will focus on projects he is passionate about, including Cartier’s global museum exhibitions. He will also continue to oversee Cartier Philanthropy and Cartier for Nature. The decision to appoint Ferla aligns with Richemont’s broader strategy under Nicolas Bos’s leadership. It aims to bring new energy into the group’s flagship brands and ensure their relevance in a rapidly evolving luxury landscape.

Ferla’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as Cartier expands its global footprint and enhances its outreach to cater to a new generation of luxury consumers and emerging markets. Ferla’s background in managing international markets will be instrumental in driving Cartier’s growth, reinforcing Maison’s position at the forefront of the luxury industry.
